Manual entry on your VDO tachograph, from your phone
When you put your driver card in, the tachograph asks what you have done in the meantime. On the tachograph itself that takes a good many steps through a complicated menu, on a two-line display. In VYS Mobile Tacho you fill in that same period on a screen you take in at a glance.
What exactly the tachograph wants to know
The tachograph knows the period between ejecting your card and putting it back in. That time is unknown to it, and it wants to know how you spent it: rest, other work or availability. It also wants to know the country where your working period began and where it ended.
- The period runs from the minute of removal to the minute the card goes back in
- For each block you pick rest, other work or availability
- The country at the start and the end of the working period belongs with it
How the app takes that over
The app fetches the open period from the tachograph and puts it on a time bar. If you have recorded your hours in the app, the blocks are already there and you only have to check them. If you have not, you set them yourself, with your finger across the bar.
- The open period comes from the tachograph itself; you do not type it over
- The blocks come from your working time record, or you fill them in by hand
- The country code comes from your phone GPS and can be changed
- The app waits until the card has been fully read before it sends
- For every entry it stays recorded whether it was accepted, refused or not sent
Why fewer things go wrong that way
Most mistakes in the manual entry happen because you click through a menu under time pressure that shows you only two lines at a time. A wrong minute or a forgotten country code is not something you spot on a display like that. On a phone screen you see the whole period before you send it, and you can correct it as long as it has not gone.
For VDO only
Manual entry and ejecting from a distance only work with a VDO tachograph with Bluetooth. On a Stoneridge that is not possible, and we would rather say so honestly.
